چکیده

BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to determine the localisation of the infraorbital foramen in relation to chosen anthropometric landmarks as novel reference points: nasion, rhinion, and frontomalare orbitale, and to verify their symmetry. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty-four sides of thirty-two human skulls were investigated. The distances between the infraorbital foramina and nasion, rhinion, and frontomalare orbitale, and the distances between two contralateral infraorbital foramens were measured. The symmetry was analysed and statistical analysis was performed. RESULTS The mean distance and standard deviation (mean ± SD) between the right infraorbital foramen and the nasion, rhinion, and right frontomalare orbitale were 45.23 ± 3.20 mm, 39.84 ± 1.72 mm, and 36.28 ± 1.50 mm, respectively, and between the left infraorbital foramen and the nasion, rhinion, and left frontomalare orbitale were 44.38 ± 2.76 mm, 38.88 ± 2.01 mm, and 36.31 ± 2.19 mm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The results presented in this study may be particularly helpful for surgery in patients with oedema of the infraorbital region when the other landmarks are difficult to localise.

Objectives: Evidence supports a clear racial variation in the position of the infraorbital foramen (IOF). Therefore detailed knowledge of the population specific data on biometric features of (IOF) will facilitate therapeutic, diagnostic and surgical manipulations in the maxillofacial region. The goal of this study was to elucidate the morphological features and precise anatomical position of t...

Morphometric analysis of infraorbital foramen in Indian dry skulls

We analyzed the variability in position, shape, size and incidence of the infraorbital foramen in Indian dry skulls as little literature is available on this foramen in Indians to prevent clinical complications during maxillofacial surgery and regional block anesthesia. Fifty-five Indian skulls from the Department of Anatomy CSM Medical University were examined. The 110 sides (left and right) o...

OBJECTIVE To determine the morphology and the locations of the SupraOrbital Notch/Foramen (SON/F), InfraOrbital Foramen (IOF), and Mental Foramen (MF) relative to frequently encountered surgical landmarks. MATERIAL AND METHOD One hundred and six Thai adult skulls were investigated. RESULTS Mean horizontal widths of SON, SOF, IOF and MF were 4.31 +/- 1.61 mm, 2.81 +/- 0.62 mm, 3.35 +/- 0.62 ...

Morphometric Analysis of Accessory Sutural Bones Association With Parietal Emissary Foramina

Background: The sutural bones and fontanelle of the skull display unique morphological characters. Sutural bones are also called supernumerary bones or ossicles or Wormian bones (WB). These are irregular and develop from the independent ossification centers present along the cranial sutures. They appear on periosteal and endosteal surfaces of the skull with variations in size, number, shape, an...
